Inspired by Professor Getnet Tadele's legacy of community development and education
Through community-led initiatives, we've transformed lives across rural Ethiopia
Growing up in Azena, Professor Getnet Tadele witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of the Ayo River. Each rainy season, the river became a "constant menace," isolating communities, preventing access to healthcare and education, and claiming lives.
An estimated 60,000 villagers were cut off from essential services. Children missed exams, pregnant women couldn't reach clinics, and between 20-30 people drowned each year trying to cross the raging waters.
This personal experience fueled his determination to create change, beginning with the construction of a bridge that would transform his community forever.
The Ayo River Bridge transformed from a dangerous crossing to a safe passage, connecting communities and saving lives.
