Azena town had only one full-cycle elementary school (Grades 1-8) serving children from the town and nearby rural villages. With the elevated status of Azena as a Woreda capital came:

Three Integrated Components
The expansion project addressed three critical educational needs through an integrated approach:
Classroom Expansion (Grades 5-8)
Built additional classroom blocks to expand from grades 1-4 to complete K-8 system, relieving pressure from the existing overcrowded primary school struggling with 3,000+ students.
Early Childhood Education (ECE)
Established and operates a model Early Childhood Education program - the first of its kind in the area, providing critical foundational education for young children.
Special Needs Education
Introduced comprehensive special needs education programs addressing the needs of children with various disabilities, ensuring inclusive education for all.
